NZ didn’t attract those films because of tax credits. If you have worked with NZ and Australian crews I am sure you will notice that NZers have a better work ethic and are not ‘clock watchers’ the way vast numbers of Aussie crews tend to be. I also think NZers take greater pride in their work than a significant number of Aussies seem to, who also have an exaggeratedly high opinion of their skills while often being overpaid. The subsidizing of films in Australia has turned the focus of the entire industry into ‘how to appeal to Screen Australia’ rather than how to appeal to audiences which explains why 2014 was the worst box office year since the 1970s.
